Convert your foreign driving licence

Already hold a driving licence from another country? We guide you through conversion to a German licence, with support in English and Turkish. Our driving school is in Winnenden; practical training is also available in Stuttgart.

Driving licence conversion in Winnenden

Practical training in Stuttgart: We are happy to provide your driving lessons for licence conversion in Stuttgart too. We agree on suitable lesson times and a meeting point with you personally.

The documents and tests required depend on factors including the issuing country and your particular licence. The responsible driving licence authority decides on recognition and requirements.

We discuss the process with you, prepare you for any theory or practical tests required and support you with driving training.

To prepare for a required theory test, you can add our learning app for €80. Purchase is optional. The app lets you practise specific topics, and we can see your progress. A transfer from another driving school can also be discussed individually.

Questions about licence conversion

We review your situation based on your existing licence.

Do I need to convert an EU or EEA driving licence?

A valid EU or EEA driving licence is generally recognised in Germany. You therefore do not have to convert it immediately just because you move here. Validity periods, individual categories and special cases still need to be checked.

Do I need to take tests if my licence is from another country?

This depends on the issuing country and your licence category. For certain countries and categories, one or both tests may be waived. In other cases, both theory and practical tests are generally required. The driving licence authority decides what applies to your situation.

How long can I drive with a non-EU/EEA licence?

Generally for six months after establishing normal residence in Germany. This means where your life is actually centred, not automatically your date of entry. There are special rules and possible exceptions that you need to clarify with the driving licence authority.

Submitting a licence conversion application does not automatically extend your right to drive.

Is a specific number of theory or driving lessons required?

For a licence conversion, the standard minimum training hours for a first licence generally do not apply. Your preparation depends on your knowledge and driving experience. Before we accompany you to a required practical test, we make sure you can drive safely and are ready for the test.
